Shouldn't all activities revolve around teaching? Our answer is that everything is teaching. Even things that you might consider as passive activities where your employees are giving you data can be used to teach them in the moment.

Consider something like a survey. We generally think of surveys as activities where employees share their thoughts, opinions, and feelings. But here's the cool part: Something as simple as survey questions can serve to engage your people. Simply presenting your employees the survey questions gets them thinking about the topics you are asking them about. Suddenly they are spending a few moments contemplating topics like password security, tailgating, secure document destruction, incident reporting, and more.

That kind of cognitive activity has been shown to influence ideas and behavior to such a degree that psychologists struggle to create surveys and experiments without influencing the mind of their subject. Thankfully, from a security perspective, our focus is to influence their minds and shape their behavior. When deployed purposefully, there are nearly limitless avenues to help drive security awareness, behavior, and culture.
