Chapter 22
Waiting outside the police station was a hover limo. Ruby was inside and still asleep on the back seat. Kára marched Archie and Lars straight out of the station and into the waiting limo. She remained silent as she closed the door after she getting in.
“Can Lars…” Lars started to say.
Kára cut him off, “Speak again and I will cut your tongue out.” She spat the words at Lars.
Lars held up his hands and then flopped back into the leather seat. Archie spoke this time, “I believe what Mr. Lars was going to ask was where are we going?”
Kára gave him a stern look silencing him. Archie held up his hands in surrender and pushed himself deeper into the seat.
“We are headed straight for the spaceport. We are leaving Earth before Blart the Dim-Witted can cause any more trouble,” Kára informed them.
Lars went to say something when his self-preservation instinct kicked in and he shut his mouth and looked out the window.
Twenty minutes later they were at Rio’s international spaceport. They bypassed the normal entrance and drove around to a side gate. There they were waved through by security and drove to the very last pad on the west side of the port. As they pulled closer they could see the outlines of the sleek ship.
Once they arrived Kára woke Ruby. She rubbed her eyes and stretched. The driver got out of the limo and opened the back door for them. They exited the vehicle and walked toward the ship.
Lars was the first to say anything, “Wow would you look at that, an Eli ship. Just what we will need.”
Kára gave Lars a look that could kill, “Hey Lars didn’t talk to you, Lars was just making an observation, so no cutting off of anything of Lars’s.”
Kára looked at the ship and it was indeed a light Eli scout ship. It was the same model that she had used to escape her world when it was devoid of life. Yet this one had been modified heavily with human modifications. She was horrified.
A human male was standing at the loading ramp. He smiled and seemed friendly enough. He looked to be in his forties, still young enough to handle this journey, yet old enough to have some experience under his belt. He had somewhat of a rounded face that gave to him a bit of boyish charm. He not quite as tall as Kára and his clothes were modest and not flashy. He looked like a man who didn’t want to attract a lot of attention to himself. Yet his clothing was in good condition, clean, and not too cheap, yet not too expensive either.
As they approached he held out his hand, “Which one of you is Kára?”
Kára stepped forward and shook his hand, “I am,”
“R. Jackson at your service,” he said with a smile.
“R? That’s a funny first name,” Ruby remarked.
Jackson laughed at the comment, “It’s an initial, not a name, honey.”
“So, what does it stand for then?” she asked.
