Chapter 17: How did we get here?

I woke up the next morning to a light knock at the door. I flew upright in bed not knowing how I had gotten here. The last thing I remembered was laying in a pile of pillows listening to Clay as he played his guitar in the tree house. The door creaked open; it was Morgan. Her light brown hair was wet indicating she had just come from the shower. She came over and sat at the edge of my bed.

“Hey, do you want to get some breakfast with everyone before the defense meeting?” She asked and I nodded yes, wanting to update everyone on the Adam situation.

“Okay, I’ll give you a little time to get ready,” She said getting up to leave.

“Morgan wait,” I called after her and she turned to face me.

“I’m really happy for you and Grant. Why didn’t you tell me about the whole Fae soul mate thing with you two?” I asked and she slowly sat back on the bed.

“Who told you about that?” She asked back.

“I squeezed it out of Clay,” I answered and she laughed.

“I’ll bet he wasn’t excited to have that discussion,” she said still smiling, and I nodded in agreement. Her expression turned more serious.

It took me longer to understand my feelings when we met because I’m only part Fae, but Grant said the instant he made eye contact with me something clicked inside and he just knew we had our sealment moment. Now that I see him, it’s as if I can see his soul more than any other’s and it’s linked with mine, if that makes any sense.” She said, and I had to suppress my smile.

She gave my arm a playful punch, “Shut-up, I know it sounds corny and I would be making fun of you too, but it’s hard to explain.” She said and now I was no longer suppressing my smile.

“What happens when we leave Draíochta?” I asked feeling suddenly guilty.

“Grant is coming with us. Didn’t Clay tell you?” She asked and I shook my head.

“It would be too hard to be apart. He feels like my oxygen or something, again, hard to explain.” Morgan said this as though it wasn’t strange at all to feel dependent on someone else just to breathe.

I gave her a funny look. “You did fine when we were shopping without him,” I pointed out and she laughed.

“Yes, but that was only a few miles. I could still feel his presence, and that was only a temporary separation.” She explained, and I was astonished by that admission. She could feel his presence even miles away?

“I’ll
