Had a long talk with Nat down by the lake tonight and learned worlds about boys—he’s so shy, Nat—and I couldn’t understand.

The next evening, Florence met Nat. He looked at her with an intensity that frightened her. He promised not to get jealous. They achieved a certain peace, which lasted until the next night.

Had a delightful day with Nat and was gloriously happy until the evening came and he broke his promise to me.

Am through with Nat! He was perfect all afternoon, all evening—but then he, he was awful—oh, what is the matter with boys!

Didn’t speak to Nat this morning and later he took me up to the hill and sang love songs to me and astounded me with his explanation of last night.
