After breakfast had been completed, I rushed the kids upstairs to their bedroom and assisted them in dressing. When they were attired in their school uniforms and nicely groomed, they returned downstairs to keep their father company while I swiftly went to dress myself for the day. Once I had freshened myself in the bathroom, I quickly threw on a pair of dark, denim blue jeans and a peach, fitted cap-sleeve, scalloped neck blouse, then promptly arranged my long ringlets, tying them into a loose ponytail. Finally, I rushed downstairs ready to take them to school.

With light sweaters over their shoulders and petite backpacks placed on their backs, the four of us emerged from the house into the cool morning air. It was an overcast morning with low lying clouds created by the marine layer from the ocean not too far from here. But it was forecasted today that the sun will have burned off the clouds, revealing bright, sunny, blue sky for the remainder of the day.

As we walked to school, the kids talked about their usual curious topics with me. Leif simply listened to our discussion, seeming charmed or intrigued, or maybe both, while he paced along with us. And, the one that hit Earth was a huge enough one to change the Earth’s environment. So, because of that, the dinosaurs couldn’t find the food they needed to eat, and they all died,” I explained simply.

“Will a meteor ever hit us?” he asked.

“I don’t think so,” I said unlikely.

“Yeah, ‘cause God won’t let it,” Leila said confidently.

“Do you think a Tyrannosaurus Rex or a Brontosaurus was nicer?” he asked.

“A Brontosaurus because they ate plants!” Leila answered freely.

“Yeah, I suppose you might be right, sweetie,” I said to her as I held both of their hands in mine while we walked along. The conversation continued as such for the duration of our stroll, and I wondered what Leif was thinking as he heard us discussing. I caught his gaze when he glanced at me and he warmly grinned, causing me to smile in return.

Soon arriving at school, we walked through the pedestrian gate beside the parking lot fence. We continued toward the back of the school until entering into the junior high school courtyard where all of the schoolchildren congregated according to their grade levels. Parents had already gathered around the perimeter beneath the awnings to see their children off to school this morning as usual. Leif and I came
