Get in Touch with Your Circadian Rhythm
In the animal world, creatures who are not nocturnal sleep when it’s dark and wake up when it gets light. They do this naturally because they are in touch with Earth’s electromagnetic energy, or the energy of the force created by our planet spinning.
Whether on a temporary basis (such as when we travel to a different time zone) or on a regular basis (because of work, children, social life, etc.), so many of us are out of touch with nature’s rhythm. We are no different than animals, though. In fact, we are animals. We, too, are designed to synch up with the patterns of nature. But various factors have gotten us out of our natural cycle, ranging from too much screen time and scrolling, overreactive stress, and overload.
We need sleep for healthy and hydrated tissues, robust digestion, immunity, metabolism, secretion of melatonin, and better stress management. Those pre-midnight hours are particularly precious when it comes to getting all of these systems up and running in their most robust state. We are meant to be seizing that time. Did you know that every hour you sleep before midnight is the equivalent of two hours’ sleep rather than one? Make a point of turning off your screens and winding down once the sun has set. You may not go to bed at eight, but you also shouldn’t be going to bed after midnight.
To get yourself into a more natural sleep rhythm, try these tips.
