Chapter 46
The pink stone hummed a strange tune as I focused upon it. This Eon Stone seemed different from the others in a way I couldnât put my finger on and as I connected, I started to understand why.
You are attuning to a Weapon Stone.
The Shieldstone can shift into a magic resistant buckler on command. Focus where you wish the buckler to appear on your arms.
Glancing at my left arm, I focused on my wrist and at once, a small pink disk made of speckled stone appeared. It was flat and round, not wide enough to do much in way of protecting from full attacks butâ¦I could use my hand to hold my sword stillâ¦meaning I could block and parry with my shield while fighting two-handed.
âWoah!â I said as the shield vanished, my focus commanding it to return to its normal stone form. Instantly my arm was free and I could manipulate my wrist better. This would make it easier when it came to climbing and such.
The little stone bobbed in a circle around my left wrist, like a perpetual bracelet. I saw no reason to restrict it, just in case it needed to actually traverse the space in some way.
With my new weapon stone, I was excited to face off with the shadowprowl. The fear of fighting was fading rapidly in my heart and a new sensation was being replaced with it. A sense of exhilaration and enthusiasm, as well as a sense of understanding of the severity of what I was walking into. My body knew what to expect, including the adrenaline, and I felt sharper than ever. I wasnât overconfident but I was adequately confident. Perhaps at just the right level to take on a terrible beast.
Once my attunement was complete, I moved out with Precio and his warrior friends. They were all armed with the lightsticks but were ready to flee at a momentâs notice.
We arrived at the empty basin of the volcano, where above I could hear the rushing of wind â or movement of the creature.
âHe is upon us!â Precio hissed. âThrow them! Good luck, portal runner!â
Instantly, the pitch black basin flared up with brilliant light as the little warriors threw their lightsticks. The spears stuck into the walls and ground, bringing a piercing shine through the darkness. I rushed out into the open, sword drawn and buckler at my wrist.
A tall, writhing creature made of black mass came wriggling out of the darkness, his arms made up of thousands of grasping hands. They stretched forward in impossible ways, seeking to snuff out the light that threatened them so.
Without hesitation, I ran towards the first arm I could see, charging with my sword held high. The shadowprowl had no chance to react, my blade struck its arm and immediately the appendage was retracting back into the darkness. The monster shrieked and suddenly, all hands were coming towards me.
I slashed wildly, left, right, up and down, cutting through the shadows as my sword took full control of itself.
