Rule of Thirds

The most common mistake made by amateur photographers is to put the main focus of the photo in the center of the image. They believe that because this is the most important thing it should be the main focus and this is true, however by putting this in the center of the image, your eyes are drawn straight to it and the rest of the photo is forgotten. To combat this we use what is known as the rule of thirds, by separating your image in to thirds you make it so that the viewer is drawn to the most important part first and then their eyes move on to the rest of the image. If you look at the images below you will notice that the first photo is bland and forgettable, however the second photo captures your eyes and makes you take notice of the whole image and not just part of it.
