SAMPLES OF YOUR WORK
Unless you are dealing with a regular client or you know the job is yours, include samples of the work estimated in the cost proposal. In this case, the client is interested in subject expertise—executive-portrait photography—and in a particular style—black and white.
Never assume the client will remember the work he saw in your portfolio or go back to your website when he is deciding who to hire. Never assume he will pull your promotional materials from his files to make his decision. Count on having to visually reestablish your photography credentials. Also, samples will help your client get you the job when he has to present your cost proposal to a committee that has never met you or seen your portfolio.
THIRD-PARTY PROOF
In addition to your contract and samples, you can add credibility by submitting proof of your capabilities. This third-party proof consists of something or someone else (not you) offering testimonial to your value. It may be the deciding factor in the client deciding to hire you. More likely, your client may need these items to prove your reliability to her own committee of decision makers. Examples of third-party proof include: testimonial letters from satisfied clients, awards you have won, exhibits of your photography, a list of clients, client references, information on your studio, and professional organizations you belong to—anything you can do that will give you additional credibility and help the client make the right decision—to hire you!
