I didn't plan on spying on her. In reality, I didn't know what I was planning. After seeing her doing something that only the Alius develop with time, I felt that I had to protect her. I didn't know where my interest in making her my prey had come from. That interest had now turned into a need to help her, to speak with her. Without a doubt, she was special. Not in her girl form. She was special in the way that she was developing in her Alius form. I knew the destiny that awaited her if they gave her away before being able to remain completely in the virtual world. But I also knew the destiny that awaited her if she hurried her transformation; her virtual body would perhaps not be able to support it and she would transform into an Alius without consciousness. I knew what almost turning into that felt like. I had seen many fail. Even now, I didn't find myself safe from it. If I stayed too long in my Alius form, I could end up losing consciousness and the ability to return to my human form. So, I had to help her. Maybe just because she reminded me of myself.

I felt weird observing her. On other occasions I had done the same thing with difficult prey. But this time, I had to talk with her. I saw her slip into the river. I knew that if I appeared like this, I would frighten her. I left my animal form and walked toward her as slowly as I could. She still couldn't see me, since she was lying on her back in the water. When I felt I was close enough I said calmly, “Hello…”

She sat up immediately, looked at me for a few seconds and, after changing her demeanor, asked me, “Why did you help me leave the castle?” Answering her took me a little more time than I thought. I didn't want to tell her, I actually didn't know how to answer her

“I don't plan on hunting you anymore…”
