SB-900 and SB-910 Buttons and Controls

Flash Head

To point the flash head in different directions, press the Tilt button (figure 7.1) with your finger and rotate the head. The flash heads on the SB-900 and SB-910 rotate 180 degrees to each side (360 degrees total) and 90 degrees vertically. You need to press the button to begin movement, but you don’t need to keep pressing it to continue.

If you look closely at the back of the flash head, you will notice it has angle scales on it. However, they are not really useful unless you are telling someone else how to set up your flash (figure 7.2).

The SB-900 and SB-910 also have a –7-degree position (figure 7.3) that is used for doing macro work when mounted on top of your camera. Pay close attention to this setting because many functions of the flash are not accessible when the head is at –7 degrees (e.g., GN).
