“I can’t believe I disappear for a little while and you guys put on levels and then crash.” Baladara’s voice woke Horc from the comfortable bed he was asleep in. “I got your message by the way. I’ll handle anything I have to.”

“Thanks.” Horc blinked at her. “How did you find us?”

“When I logged on, I looked at the map and it showed me where my party was.” She crossed her arms and glared. “And you added to the party. Barbarians make pretty good tanks. Is he any good?”

“She’s good.” Horc sat up and rubbed his eyes. On the other bed in the small room, Greensleeves was doing the same.

“Looks like it’s light outside,” Greensleeves said. “So at least we got some rest.”

Baladara stared at them. “You guys got tired? You’re using your pods. You shouldn’t get tired.”

Greensleeves stretched and yawned. “I think it’s one of the new things they added trying to make it more lifelike. I’ll ask Rick about it when I get out of the pod for a while. I bet they don’t have coffee here.”

Baladara laughed. “You know there was a quest chain in one of the other games I played where I had to go a series of quests to gather beans, hot water, and something else for an NPC to make his own coffee, although he didn’t call it that. I’d have to go back and check to see what it was.” She frowned. “If I can even remember what game it was. That was a long time ago.”

Greensleeves sighed. “I might have done that one too, back in high school. It sounds vaguely familiar.”

Horc rolled his eyes. “I would think game designers would have better things to do with their time, and ours, than something like that.” He reached for his leather armor he’d piled on the chair next to the bed.

“Hey, some of these strange little nonsense quests are the best ones,” Baladara said. “They can be a real palate cleanser after some really tough ones where we have to battle our way through endless mobs to grind out some cash, or leather.”

“Okay. Let’s go grab some breakfast and get on the trail,” Greensleeves said. “I’ll send Steelmaiden a message to meet us downstairs.”

“Sounds good.” As Horc pulled on his boots, he realized something, a plus to the digital world. He hadn’t had to hit the bathroom to relieve himself. He just hoped his pod was operating properly and taking care of those functions of his physical body the way it was supposed to.

Giving his wolf a quick head rub, Horc stood from his bed and waited for Greensleeves to finish getting dressed.

“You settled on getting a wolf companion.” Baladara eyed the wolf. “Looks good. Are you going to name it, or just leave it as wolf?”

“I’d like to name it, but I haven’t thought of a name yet.” Horc patted the wolf again. “I’ve never had a pet before, so I’m not really sure what goes into naming them.”

“You’ll think of something,” Greensleeves said.
