Chapter IV
Military-Technical Preparations and Activities
What was said earlier about the general thrust of the partiesâ military-technical preparations overall applies to those undertaken in Moscow. The main focus was on the creation of party or revolutionary armed forces and on work among the soldiers of the local garrison. Central to the former was the formation, arming, and training of combat detachments, the boevye druzhiny, and the establishment of organizations for directing their activities. Work among the soldiers was aimed at bringing to pass two developments--the passage of at least part of the garrison to the side of the revolution and the refusal of the remainder to act at the behest of the government.
