Dear Daatha,

I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. How is everything with you in Kegalle? I hope that Riyaz Machaan and the children are in good health.

I tried giving you a trunk call but the lines are down because of the rains. So I decided to send you this letter. I didn’t send a telegram because I didn’t want Riyaz Machaan to get worried.

We are having a small problem here at home and I don’t know what to do about it. I think it is best if you can come to Colombo and have a small talk with RaushenGul. I don’t know what has come over this child but she has gone and adopted a little girl and no-one knows what to do about it. Anyway, you must be knowing all about it by now. The whole of Colombo can’t seem to talk about anything else. I am asking you to do this for me because I think RaushenGul will listen to you.
