Visualisation in labour
Alongside breathing, visualisation can be very powerful during labour because the mind and body are able to work even more closely together â and that is the aim of the game. Imagine anything that helps you to focus on up and out, particularly on the longer out breath. Your cervix and muscles of the uterus need to open up. This is where you should really let go and release. Here is an example to try:
Imagine the sunrise coming up and out from the sea on the horizon as you breathe in. Really picture the beautiful change in colours, then as the sun rises up into the sky breathe out. Stay focused on the peaceful movement of the sun and the tranquil, soft colours.
Imagine a beautiful big oak tree sucking water up and breathing out. Imagine all the clean, renewing nutrients delicately reaching all the branches and leaves, calmly and peacefully moving up and out. Visualise this image as you breathe in and out.
