The Eight Yupsi Stories

The tales you will read to your child are extremely simple. They make it possible to work on a particular emotion or a particular attitude toward others. The common denominator of these stories is opening the heart, which is designed to help develop compassion in your child. These tales must be read very attentively. As a parent, you will be able to feel how to introduce moments of silence into the reading, so that your child will have a chance to interact, ask questions, or make comments.

Each tale can be a point of departure for a discussion with your child on the subject Yupsi has brought up. You can ask questions such as “What are you feeling?” so that your child can gradually learn how to describe her emotions. Each story can be read several times; children love to hear their favorite stories repeated.

In the first few tales, Yupsi is completely separate from your child, but as you read further, he comes closer and closer to becoming a part of him or her. By the time you read the last story, your child will realize that the dragon is an integral part of himself.

Here are the main themes you will encounter in the Yupsi stories. Each story is preceded by a philosophical quotation.
