Make complete prints or artworks by rubbing found objects that create the lines and shapes desired. For example, make a house with windows and doors by rubbing objects that have squares and rectangles.

Let’s Go!

1. Place your paper over the texture plate or object (fig. 1).

2. Choose a color and hold it on its side to rub on the paper (fig. 2).

3. Add new colors by layering one color over the other or next to one another (fig. 3).

4. Use as many colors as you like, overlapping and making new colors as you go.

5. You can fill in the white background with watercolor paints to make your textures really stand out (fig. 4)!

6. Let the artwork dry. Now feel the paper. It is still smooth, but now has visual texture—texture you can see, but cannot feel.
