No matter the size of a pressurized oxygen cylinder, you can use them all until they’re completely empty.

Here’s a quick look at the two most common sizes of pressurized acetylene cylinders.

The large size contains 300 cubic feet of acetylene (at a pressure of 220

pounds per square inch). They weigh 230 pounds when full and 215

when empty.

The small size contains 100 cubic feet of acetylene (at a pressure of 225

pounds per square inch). They weigh 90 pounds when full and 84

pounds when empty.

You can also get pressurized acetylene in 40-cubic-foot and 10-cubic-foot cylinders, but these sizes aren’t used very often, and you can’t completely empty the smaller one; you have to stop using the gas when the bottle has a pressure of about 25 pounds per square inch.

Setting up oxyfuel cutting equipment

You can read all about how to make oxyfuel cuts in Chapter 12, but here’s a rundown on how you should set up the equipment.
