Big Nick sat watching his slate. It was still streaming images from the body cam Dan left aimed at the LZ. The little kid looked like the leader. The one in the tent seemed to be in charge of comms, and the three riding the trikes seemed to be the next level of command. He wished he could pan the camera and see more of the LZ. He watched and waited for his guys to come back, so they could figure out how to take out whatever was jamming their signal.

Dan and Willi Ray kept moving through the shadows, sometimes going up and over vehicles, other times going the whole length of a row under them. They did their best to hide any trail they may have left. Dan waved Willi Ray over to some shade and took a sip from one of his canteens before he passed it to Willi Ray.

“How are we going to get Big Nick out of this mess?” Willi Ray asked.

“It does appear he has gotten us into quite a bit of trouble, doesn’t it?” Dan replied. “I believe the armorer is correct, he is in much need of supervision. We must save Big Nick; we must be his supervision.”

“Yes, we will save the XO; we will be his supervision. I also think we should keep this between us; he would never accept our help. His pride will not let him.”

The two nodded, got to their feet, and traveled the last twenty minutes in silence. When they made it to the escape hatch, Dan opened a comm link and said, “We are here.”

The two Leethog’s entered the escape hatch and closed it behind them. Big Nick opened the rear cargo hatch, and the two Leethogs bolted past him. Before he knew it, they had returned with their tools. Not saying a word, they went to work on the escape hatch.

“Now, we are safer,” Willi Ray said. “With the lock on, they cannot open the escape hatch from the outside.”

Big Nick nodded as they exited the forward cargo hatch. They rigged a lock on that one also. They moved over to the area where the tools were stored, and each sat on a box.

“Guys, we are in trouble,” Big Nock said. “We can’t contact our ship, and communications are compromised.”

He told them about the bogus TDF SAR. He also explained how the comms guy knew he was in the Boneyard without being told, and how his radio discipline really sucked. A Search and Rescue radio operator’s discipline is spot on and precise, because it is usually a life and death matter.

“Our LZ is overrun by at least forty-five hostiles,” Big Nick said, and he brought up the live feed on his slate. “I think the mast with the dish and antennas on it is the key to their jamming us. We need to take it down, so we can contact Desert Shade. Right now, there are three patrols searching for us. That’s about thirty-three men roaming around the Boneyard and twelve at the LZ.
