You should know about another angle in all of this. When you know Jesus was forsaken, it should also make you seek out those who have been forsaken. Leaving the ninety-nine, go and find the one lost sheep (Matt. 18:12).

Jesus was forsaken not just so you wouldn’t be but so you would be his agent of rescue to those who feel alienated and forsaken. Wholeness is not just for you; it is also meant to flow through you. Grace that is kept to yourself poisons you. And yet how quickly we become selfish and self-righteous and hoard the healing that was our only chance of getting out of captivity.
