Virtual Life

It might as well have been midnight inside the lobby, the building's black tinted windows cutting off any natural light that might otherwise have streamed into the space. The area was quite shadowy with harsh contrasts, illumined only by a plethora of ostentatious lighting systems. It was beautiful in an engineered way, yet Rachel felt it was dishonest, manufactured, and fell short of offering the atmosphere she assumed it was intended to create, leaving it seemingly shallow. The meeting room below Zabars had been dark too, but the lighting there was different. It just seemed to 'be' a part of the room.

Rachel and Grayson aka ’Mr. Raphael' approached the lobby's reception desk to check in. While Grayson greeted the guard and showed his credentials, ID badge, and was retina scanned, she shed her coat and smoothed out her suit, hoping to look as polished as she had when she left The Kimberly. A variety of early afternoon edition newspapers were spread neatly on one side of the reception counter. Rachel glanced over and caught the headline:
