“How can I get a measurement of saliva testosterone?”

I know of one commercial laboratory, Aeron Life Cycles, in San Leandro, California, that performs the assay and will provide materials for saliva collection and mailing.

Many physicians who treat women for symptoms of testosterone deficiency do not regularly order a blood test to measure their testosterone levels. Most have never even heard of the saliva test. Even my present gynecologist is fond of saying, “I treat the patient, not the numbers.” There is something to be said for this philosophy, as long as the physician knows what she or he is doing, and as long as the patient is knowledgeable and comfortable with the approach.

Speaking for myself, though, I preferred to know what my pre-treatment testosterone levels were, and I requested intermittent tests to monitor blood levels as I began to supplement testosterone. (I was not using methyltestosterone, so the tests gave useful readings.) The bottom line, where testing levels of testosterone is concerned, is to monitor testosterone levels during supplementation, in order to assure that testosterone remains within the physiological range.
