I don’t speak to anyone for a week. I can’t get any sound out. I shut down.

At times my body won’t move, and I can’t make it move. I am no longer there. I watch people talking to me but can’t hear them. I can’t eat. I sit in my room a lot.

They talk about putting me in the hospital but Eadie argues that I need my home environment. It is decided I will stay at the cottage and that Eadie will visit me in the morning and evening and sometimes at dinner as well.

They keep me off school for a couple of days, but that doesn’t help, I have nothing to do, I sit frozen, with people asking me if I am all right and do I want tea. I have never been offered as much tea in my life, as if tea will help bring Morag back.

Jonesy was strangled. They didn’t tell me at the time, just that she had been killed. I hear later that she was strangled. She was found on the back steps of our cottage. I can’t go round the back of our cottage as I worry that if I see the steps I will see her body.

Cook found her. Cook is also too distraught to talk. She will cook food but she won’t speak. They offer her time off, but she shakes her head and points to the kitchen.

From what they have said it sounds like Jonesy fought and fought. I know she would have. She had so much life in her and she wasn’t going to give that up without a struggle. No one has said if she was raped. I don’t want to know if she was.
