Madison showed up first thing in the morning to Laura’s delight. “Good morning, Madison. What brings you here so early?”

She came in carrying a laptop. “I want to show you something.” Setting the laptop on the kitchen counter, she fired it up and logged on to a page called The Hideaway Inn.

Laura was fascinated. “You did this? It’s absolutely gorgeous.” The Inn’s front porch was captured in such a light that it was looking cozy and inviting against the backdrop of the lake in the distance.

“Thank you. I think it shows how inviting this place truly is. All a potential guest has to do is reserve online, put in their credit card and you’ll be warned when a reservation is made. I’ll put an app on your phone that will notify you each time.”

“Wow! I’m amazed, even though we had computers and the MLS system in the real estate office, this is absolutely wonderful.”

Madison nodded. “It’s convenient. I’ve also hooked you up with Airbnb and several other companies. You’ll also be notified if anyone reserves a room with them.”

“I love it. Thank you, Madison. You have no idea how much you have helped me.”

“I do have other clients, so I must get to my next appointment, but I’ll stop by this afternoon to show you how to use the apps.”

“Come for supper, dear. Cole will be here, too.”

Madison waved goodbye and bypassed Olivia, who was coming down the stairs. Laura watched as the two exchanged a friendly hello. Olivia closed the private double door that led to Laura’s private area. Usually, Laura kept it open since there were no visitors yet. “You didn’t have to close the door, love.”

Olivia shook her head and rolled her eyes. “We have to talk and I don’t want Cole walking in and hearing this.”

Laura looked at her daughter with concern. “Grab a cup of coffee and sit.”

Olivia looked quite disturbed as she poured a cup for herself, then made her way to Laura’s side. She sat on the stool next to her mother, taking a sip of the hot brew. “You always make such excellent coffee, Mom.”

“Go on now. Don’t act so mysterious and then be casual when you know I’m dying to know what you want.”

Olivia smiled. “I guess I am a bit dramatic at times.”

“At times? You and Bailey both. Now, what’s going on?” She had a feeling Olivia just learned Cole’s mysterious secret.

“Well, I got a phone call this morning. It’s why I’m late coming downstairs. A woman was on the other end looking for Cole.”

Laura didn’t seem to think there was anything unusual about that. “Maybe she lost his number. I don’t see what the problem is.”

Olivia sighed. “Mother, please let me finish. This woman, she said her name was Sherri, and she found my number in his work phone he left behind. Don’t you think it strange that she has access to his phone? Who is this woman?”

“I wouldn’t get too excited yet. Why don’t you ask Cole?”

Olivia shook her head.
