Madison showed up first thing in the morning to Lauraâs delight. âGood morning, Madison. What brings you here so early?â
She came in carrying a laptop. âI want to show you something.â Setting the laptop on the kitchen counter, she fired it up and logged on to a page called The Hideaway Inn.
Laura was fascinated. âYou did this? Itâs absolutely gorgeous.â The Innâs front porch was captured in such a light that it was looking cozy and inviting against the backdrop of the lake in the distance.
âThank you. I think it shows how inviting this place truly is. All a potential guest has to do is reserve online, put in their credit card and youâll be warned when a reservation is made. Iâll put an app on your phone that will notify you each time.â
âWow! Iâm amazed, even though we had computers and the MLS system in the real estate office, this is absolutely wonderful.â
Madison nodded. âItâs convenient. Iâve also hooked you up with Airbnb and several other companies. Youâll also be notified if anyone reserves a room with them.â
âI love it. Thank you, Madison. You have no idea how much you have helped me.â
âI do have other clients, so I must get to my next appointment, but Iâll stop by this afternoon to show you how to use the apps.â
âCome for supper, dear. Cole will be here, too.â
Madison waved goodbye and bypassed Olivia, who was coming down the stairs. Laura watched as the two exchanged a friendly hello. Olivia closed the private double door that led to Lauraâs private area. Usually, Laura kept it open since there were no visitors yet. âYou didnât have to close the door, love.â
Olivia shook her head and rolled her eyes. âWe have to talk and I donât want Cole walking in and hearing this.â
Laura looked at her daughter with concern. âGrab a cup of coffee and sit.â
Olivia looked quite disturbed as she poured a cup for herself, then made her way to Lauraâs side. She sat on the stool next to her mother, taking a sip of the hot brew. âYou always make such excellent coffee, Mom.â
âGo on now. Donât act so mysterious and then be casual when you know Iâm dying to know what you want.â
Olivia smiled. âI guess I am a bit dramatic at times.â
âAt times? You and Bailey both. Now, whatâs going on?â She had a feeling Olivia just learned Coleâs mysterious secret.
âWell, I got a phone call this morning. Itâs why Iâm late coming downstairs. A woman was on the other end looking for Cole.â
Laura didnât seem to think there was anything unusual about that. âMaybe she lost his number. I donât see what the problem is.â
Olivia sighed. âMother, please let me finish. This woman, she said her name was Sherri, and she found my number in his work phone he left behind. Donât you think it strange that she has access to his phone? Who is this woman?â
âI wouldnât get too excited yet. Why donât you ask Cole?â
Olivia shook her head.
