Chapter 9 - The Stranger in the Park

The next morning I was sitting with Diego and Oliver in the Common's area before school started and we were in a deep conversation about what mythical animal would improve the world the most if it existed. I mentioned before that our conversations don't go that deep. Then Oliver mentioned that he read an article that said scientists have documented that chimpanzees share about 99% of human DNA and then wondered if chimps have ghosts when they die? Just then Drew saw us and came over.

“Hey, guys, so I have been thinking about that card...” Drew started to talk but was interrupted by Diego.

"Really? You're still on that?"

“I am, all we were doing was just walking around a park...,” Drew started but then was interrupted by Oliver who started to chuckle while eating a cookie.

“Really? Just hanging around a park? Are you sure that is all we were doing because I sure feel like we were doing a whole lot more than just hanging around a park?" We almost broke into a mansion, used a drone to sneak a peek into the mansion, and then threw rocks at a headless woman after the park was closed. I'd say we were doing a little more than just hanging around a park."

Just then Emily came around the corner and came over to where we were and was very excited.

“Hey guys! You will not believe what I read and watched last night after I got home. Remember that ghost hunting group that was parked in front of the mansion, GHOUL? Did any of you look them up on the internet after you got home?”

None of us had. We just looked at her and shook our heads. Emily’s smile turned into a scowl as she shook her head in disappointment.

“You guys really aren’t any good at this whole investigative stuff. It’s sure a good thing I’m here helping you. I looked them up last night and guess what? They had already posted an article and a couple of videos of their haunting experience in the mansion on their website. You have got to see this.”

Emily had her tablet with her and had already pulled up the website. She then sat down in between Oliver and me. I wasn’t necessarily sitting close to Oliver but I also didn’t feel like there was room in between us for another person but she proved me wrong as she squished and wiggled herself in between us. We all leaned in to read the article and watch the video.

"They posted this article last night and said that this was one of the creepiest haunted houses that they have ever encountered in their twelve-year history of investigating haunted houses. They claim they have been all over the nation and six foreign countries looking into paranormal experiences and haunted places and this home was among the top spookiest they have witnessed. They talk about hearing faint sounds of laughter and hearing footsteps on the floor as well as hearing what they believed was cabinet doors slamming.
