Jarvie floated at the Passenger Lounge door, his last stop in securing the ship. This large Passenger Lounge was actually one of 27, and they were only using the front row of chairs.

Katie, as passenger monitor, was just finishing with Veez. He was strapped in a chair that Thunder and Kelson transferred from his shuttle.

Terina was next. Jarvie sent Star to the jump box with Rocket, where Terina secured them both. “Sky’s up front,” she told Jarvie.

Jarvie touched his s’link. “All crew ready, Captain. P&P is 8 and 3.”

“Good,” Iricana answered. “Proceed.”

A chorus of “See you on the other side,” followed as he secured the door.

Jarvie entered the Command Bay tentatively, not knowing what to expect, and not wanting his own undisciplined vibes to disturb anyone. He checked on Sky, who was subdued. He tapped her water bottle and snacks. “You’re good, Sky.”

“Zharvee good,” she approved and watched closely as he checked the latch. Sometimes the crew would shake hands with the captain, but she was busy, and the two pilots were completely aloof, although the tension of late had dissipated. That gave Jarvie a surge of hope and satisfaction. They’re professionals after all.

Jarvie finished his brackets and resus pack and sealed into his cocoon. “81-Petals,” Sequoia commanded, “simulate bursts of acceleration as if we were in the a-rings.”

The bursts were not going to be as hard as the a-rings, only at the same intervals, to approximate the feeling of the jump for the pilots. Supposedly, they wouldn’t even need the resus packs, but you never knew, so everyone had one.

“Jump speed in 6 hours, two minutes.”

Jarvie clicked his helmet on. “Ready, Captain.”

“God be with us all,” Beezan said quietly.

The ship was already aligned in the right direction, aimed directly at Castle. Jarvie set a camera to record the last views of the Drumheller, but didn’t feed it to the others. He took one last look at the ship that had been his accidental home and turned it off. Time to take Veez home.
