Herbal Tea Is Not Always Tea:

The the strictest sense, herbal tea is not always tea. True tisanes are actually brewed from completely different plants, not the Camellia Sinensis plant. In fact, many tisanes are made from combinations of plants and herbs. So, although herbal teas are wonderful, they really aren't named appropriately. That's why true tea enthusiasts tend to refer to them as “tisanes,” not “herbal tea”.

However, there can be some confusion as to whether an herbal tea is tea or not, depending on the ingredients involved. For example, think about going shopping for tea and coming across two different packages labeled “peppermint tea”. One of those teas contains components of the Camellia Sinensis plant, but has peppermint flavor added to it. The other is simply made with leaves from the peppermint plant and has nothing to do with the Camellia Sinensis plant.
