Fidget

“So you really think he’s Blue?”

“Talitha wouldn’t lie about that.”

“You read minds now too, Fidget?” Her dark almond eyes took me in, strands of tinsel shimmering in her hair, and when Frozenstar set down her arm in between us, my skin somehow warmed at her frigid touch.

“No, but Widmore does, and he wouldn’t let a human stay here if he was going to cause trouble.”

She rose an eyebrow at me on her cinnamon bronzed skin. “He certainly is trouble.”

I sighed as I shifted away from her, falling deeper into the plush sofa in the library reserved for texts written in German. The first edition of Catch-22 closed in my lap. “I don’t have to be a telepath to know he’s into Talitha.”

She tilted her head to the side. “You saw him looking at me though.”

“Everyone looks at you like that.” I pulled my legs under me.

“Everyone?”

“You know you’re so hot, it gives girls an eating disorder.”

She leaned forward. “Are you one of those girls?”

“Stop now.” I picked the book back up and put it between us.

“That’s not usually what you say to me.”

“What does it matter? You just sleep with me to pass the time.”

Frozenstar pushed the book away and leaned closer to me. “That’s not true.”

“It’s my fault anyway, we’ve been hooking up for a decade and you won’t even tell your brother that we’re together.”

I hit the nerve without even trying as she straightened up her back. “We’re not together.”

I threw the book at her, stood up, and walked through the wall before she could follow me. I got to my room, the door was always locked, and sunk through the wood like most people walk through a beaded curtain. I turned on my stereo, Best Coast came on, but it was interrupted by the doorknob to my room being frozen and broken with a kick.

“I don’t have to tell Phoenix anything,” Frozenstar continued, as if I hadn’t walked out, slamming the door behind her.

“Why? Because being twins is another one of your superpowers?”

She laughed, a sound so rare, but so beautiful that it would make a person wait around for a decade in the hopes that they’d hear it again. “Everyone already knows that we’re fucking so why do I have to give anyone a replay on what we do together?”

“Because it would be nice if I was worth talking about.”

“What?”

I walked up to Frozenstar, she was taller than me, and her curves were perfectly placed, as was every other part of her anatomy. “I’m not worried about Carl at all because I know what Talitha and Reed had. She wouldn’t just screw some random guy, she picked someone that I know she can’t wait to tell me all about. Once Widmore is done testing Talitha to see if she’s stronger, I know for a fact she’s going to find me and tell me all about it. Where they met, what it felt like the first time he kissed her, what he did that made her fall in love with him.
