Book 3
The proceeding weeks saw tremendous media uproar over the death of Nicki Nakers. Several lawsuits were brought against David Irby but Goldsmith succeeded in having them dismissed by his high-flying lawyer friends. Ultimately, culpability for the terrorist attack was placed on Jigmat’s failings as the head of security for the event and upon Chance and Kimmy’s cruise business, which went defunct due to their deaths and Rodrigo’s escape to a nation without an extradition treaty to the US.
Jerry and David had struck up a cordial friendship since the cruise, having spent most every day together in Toronto where David was waiting for the media firestorm to blow over. John was able to continue his security detail but Levi had been stopped at the border by Canadian authorities and forced to stay in the States on account of having posted distasteful memes to social media. He was defending his favorite pornstar from extreme right wingers but the Canadian authorities misinterpreted his post as right wing itself. He waited patiently in New York for David’s return, attending to David’s book business and answering emails as though he were David himself. He sent funny memes to David and Jerry to pass some of the time, feeling left out while they were busy training with John and others at a local MMA gym. There was a period of a few days where there was some discomfort with a meme Levi shared, debunking some of the climate information that David and Jerry had taken as fact but Levi pressed on, eager for a new direction for his intellect to go in. David had long treated him as an inferior and Levi took secret pleasure in nudging his cousin this way and that. He was also saddened by Deanna’s death as she was his only prospect in months and months. Her death put into his mind the thought that perhaps his rampant porn use, combined with his minute stature, was repelling women from him and he would never again have the chance that was presented to him with Deanna. Slowly, but surely, his weeks of isolation drove him to the fringes of the Internet. He found he was angry at his favorite pornstar for not coming to his defense despite his being banned from Canada and privately messaging her about it. In his meanderings, he came to agree more sympathetically with David’s instinctual distaste for most women. From these musings, he began to conceptualize himself as David’s “corner man” in the fervent atmosphere of combat training that David had shrouded himself in. When they were reunited, he would help David to gain the certainty he would need to earn his inheritance once and for all. For the time being, he did this mostly by sending choice memes to David throughout the day.
Jerry, stripped of his title of “Prince”, held an ornate funeral for Nicki Nakers at the Toronto Necropolis. It was two weeks after the disaster of the Climate Cruise. Several hundred people were gathered, dressed in white as Nicki had decreed in her living will.
