The Commendatore Tapparelli organized a marvellous Futurist Day in Chiavari on 22 November 1931, during which a Futurist Art Exhibition was opened, a Poetry Competition held (won by the Trieste poet Sanzin) and a lecture was given by F. T. Marinetti on ‘World Futurism’. In addition, more than three hundred people took part in a great aerobanquet held at the Hotel Negrino; the most important officials of the city and province were there.

Long articles were written about the occasion in all the Ligurian newspapers, in the Corriere della Sera, and many other Italian papers. We reproduce here the essential points of a light-hearted article in the Corriere Mercantile by a staff writer:

‘The highlight of the day – at least for the reporter intent on diversion and hungry, as the cliché would have it, for local colour – was undoubtedly the ‘First Futurist Aerobanquet’, a kind of food sculptural orgy which took place in the great rooms of the Hotel Negrino and put the stomachs of a good three hundred guests to quite a test.
