Chapter Sixteen

Each ring was outlined in a bright yellow color, from the hanging ones to the ones against the back wall. My first arrow flew through the air hitting within the red zone on the back wall. That target went dark, and I triggered Quick Shot. Two more lights went out in that area, leaving one to go. This time I started going for the targets that were hanging around from the treetops. Sharp Eyes showed several I hadn’t even noticed.

Two more arrows went flying and that brought the count to up to 5. My points were more than that but I didn’t pause. With nothing attacking the slow part was grabbing another arrow. Magic Bolt would take care of that but Willy didn’t want me to use magic just yet. I let as many arrows as I could fly during the five-minute window. Then the timer hit zero and all of the lights flashed off.

“Not bad,” said Willy.

My score was close to 75.

“What’s the best?” I asked.

He smirked. “A perfect score is 100. There are only 50 targets but you get double points for a perfect hit and you only get a half point for not hitting the red zone.”

So my score really wasn’t bad. While I didn’t get to every target, I’d gotten close, and I hit Precision shots for the last couple. I’d gotten double points for more than half, or I couldn’t have hit the total score of 75.

“Any advice?”

“You need practice,” he said. “You can fire an arrow, but I require recruits to get up to 80. You have learned good skills like Quick Shot, Precision, I’m guessing Sharp Eye, but you haven’t started to twist them into your own skills.”

I scratched my arm, thinking. He wasn’t wrong, but at the same time, I’d learned how to shoot and then gotten my first magic right after. “Yeah, part of it is I use magic most of the time, and I learned how to shoot at the same time. It’s all one thing for me.”

“I know you have your force abilities, let's see how you do using them.” Willy’s dark eyes studied me and he gave me a grin. He turned to face the target range, which now didn’t have any arrows on it. A few of the targets had moved as well. My goal this time was to hit 90 points; I had Force Precision and Magic Bolt after all.

Five minutes later, my score was 93.

A smile covered my face as my mana regenerated. My notifications went off and I took a quick peek.

New Skill Level: Mana Regeneration.

I wanted to jump for joy, since I’d just hit one of my training targets. Getting my mana regeneration as high as possible, to keep up with my normal draw, was something I was focusing on. The other two were just good to have and it was clear I needed to work on them even more.
