âWhat dictates us, the City or our hearts?â
I let Kace stay over. I know I shouldnât of, but the energy that his presence gives me is undeniably unmatched by anything this Earth has ever given me in my whole life. This manâs emotional affect on me is exhilarating yet gives me adrenaline. My entire life, I have always considered my father a one-of-a-kind human who has walked this planet. I knew, coming to this place I would want to match with someone who reminded me of how love feels. The way my father loved my mother. They were best friends. Soulmates. Even though they were growing old, they would always act as if they were teenagers again. I knew I always wanted that. I always wanted their love. Kace reminds me of just that. He makes me feel as if we were to grow old together, there would never be a day where we would waste our life away. He constantly makes me feel alive. Love is more than just physical touch. I long for a partner who will stay by my side, through thick and thin. If the City dictates whom I am supposed to be with, how do I get what I long for? I know what Kace and I are doing is rebellious, but when someone consumes you, everything else fades away. My heart, my body, and my mind are consumed by him. Almost as if he is my addiction. I know I should break it, cut him off and listen to the minds of the City. But when you are addicted, the addiction normally overrides everything else.
I roll over, facing Kace, lying on his back, hands above his head, shirtless. We didnât do anything last night, he just held me, brushed my hair and we slept. He never once tried to do anything more than what we did in the forest, and we didnât talk. I personally think he knows I want more answers. I gaze at his shirtless body, the silk sheet that lies right above his v-line, letting my eyes work their way up along his abs up to his necklace that he never takes off. It never stops moving. It feels like a whole new galaxy lies in that pendant, filled with dreams that constantly want to break free.
Iâve never seen a pendant with such power, filled with hues of green and blues, circling the whole pendant. I watch his chest rise and fall, observing his dominant veins that flow throughout his neck and arms. Perfection. Him alone. His hair, a little messier than most days, falls on the silk pillow and on his face. I slowly move his curls from it, blocking his facial featuresâ beauty. His long, pitch-dark lashes and lips were so perfectly drawn. I count his tiny freckles that flow on his face and to his ears, just like my mother would. I brush my finger along his lips, his tiny freckle that lies right on his top left lip, is one of my favorite features of him.
