OAT DAYS
As a supplement after therapeutic fasting, oat days are another great option instead of rice. Oats were used to treat diabetes decades ago, but this method has faded into obscurity. Oat has a vitalizing effect and contains large quantities of fiber such as beta-glucans, along with polyunsaturated fatty acids, B vitamins, iron, and calcium. Particularly due to its high content of beta-glucans, oats lower cholesterol and blood pressure and improve sugar metabolism. Itâs a valuable source of food for the microbiome in the intestine. Oats are, in other words, an all-arounder.
In fact, oat days reduce blood sugar so drastically that you should consult your doctor if you are taking diabetes medication and you plan on trying oat days. On the other hand, oat days are great for improving blood sugar regulation during a hospital stay. In the departments for internal medicine in large hospitals of anthroposophical medicine, oats have been successfully used for many years.
This Is What Your Rice or Oat Day Could Look Like
Rice Day
Have a rice day before fasting or as a weekly relief day after fasting: Boil three servings of rice (¼ cup of dry rice per serving) without salt; a little unsweetened stewed fruit or applesauce is also allowed (but no more than 1 cup a day).
Oat Days
Two consecutive oat days is ideal. Boil ¾ cup of whole grain oats per serving for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in water or unsalted vegetable broth. Suitable spices are pepper, curry, turmeric, cinnamon, and fresh herbs. One teaspoon of shaved almonds is allowed. In addition, you can eat raw vegetables (such as cucumber or kohlrabi).
