Etiquette vs. ethics

The heart of liberalism, as I have already suggested, is to find ways to accommodate differing conceptions of the good life found in pluralistic societies. Clearly, these differing conceptions of the good life vary in terms of their seriousness. Some divisions existing within a society concerning opposing conceptions of the good are not as serious as others. This brings me to another important point with regard to defending the ethics of proselytizing. We need to distinguish between matters of etiquette and matters of ethics. This book is about the ethics of proselytizing. Concerns about whether or not proselytizing involves good manners are really quite irrelevant.
