It took another four days of experimenting and tweaking his designs, but Harvey figured out how to make it work. In the end, his braided Kalzorite and Itorite worked as he’d hoped, projecting and extending the range of the Conductor.

Holding up the braided Conductor, carved on a fresh steel plate and wired with a thick copper cable back to the Battery Core, Harvey gradually slid it toward another Conductor. A pad of leather lay between the two, interrupting the line of sight.

At around six inches, the light from the target Converter began to pass through the leather and into the Braided one. As the energy moved through the matter, it caused it to rapidly heat up. After just a few seconds, they’d burned a hole in the material.

“Well, I guess that’s a happy side-effect,” Harvey said, putting the braided one down. “Six inches of range, for about three inches of braid. I reckon we probably need ten feet of range. That means, sixty inches of braid. In theory.”

Reacher held two fingers up.

“Yeah. Two pounds of material per braid. Okay. That’s do-able. We’re gonna go ahead and consume twelve pounds of each.”

He drew up the designs and summoned the requisite material in the lengths he’d need it.
