Pee

Please remember to pee during your labor. The baby will have more room to move down and out when your bladder is empty. A full bladder can halt the laboring process. As the baby descends, it can sometimes be hard to feel the urge to pee. If you are having difficulty peeing, you can try putting a few drops of peppermint oil in the toilet water. It has been known to help aid the process. I once supported a client in labor who was having a hard time emptying her bladder. The nurse suggested using a straight catheter to empty the bladder. Because my client was laboring without an epidural, this would have proven very uncomfortable. I put five drops of peppermint oil in the toilet and had her try again. Success! The smell of peppermint oil can sometimes help release the bladder.
