Authorization to invoke

The plan should identify who is authorized to invoke and under what circumstances (invocation trigger events and timeframes).

Plan documentation

The plan should be an action-oriented document. It needs to include:• Title, document control date and version number, confidentiality marking, table of contents.

• Assumptions and known weaknesses of the plan.

• Alert, invocation, notification and briefing instructions (sometimes issued on a credit card-sized document or on the employee identity card).

• Contact lists for internal and external contacts including Business Continuity Team members.

• Information on staff redeployment, standby locations and how to gain access to them.

• Prioritized action plans and the timeline for actions to be initiated and completed.

• Lists of vital materials and instruction on how to obtain them.

• Equipment and resource requirements necessary for recovery, the timeframe in which they will be provided and how to obtain them.

• Communication, reporting and logging requirements.

• Instructions on media and reputation management.

• Insurance contacts and information requirements.

• All supporting detailed technical, operational and administrative procedures, plans, drawings, maps, etc. (or references to where they may be obtained).
