Parked along a side street, Daichi and Kiku sat in the front seat of car while Jimmy sat in the back. Kiku balanced her laptop on the dashboard.

“Kenzo has a shipping business near Noshiro Port. He has a small home there,” Daichi said, pointing at the image on the laptop.

“I know of it,” said Kiku. “You are certain he is there?”

“Positive.”

Jimmy shook his head. “If you think that’s a small house, I’d hate to see what you think is big. The place is a mansion.”

“More like a fortress,” said Daichi. “Gated. Guarded. High security.” He scrolled the image until two tall buildings came into view. “These are the shipping offices. Workers are there till very late.”

“Not anymore,” Kiku said. “Kenzo moved the offices of the shipping company. He still owns the buildings, but he relocated the offices to Noshiro proper. Why are you interested in these buildings?”

“They’re four stories tall. I have seen the rooftops from Kenzo’s courtyard garden.”

Kiku smiled. “Which means we can see into the garden from the rooftops. Excellent.” She scrolled the footage so they were facing the house, with the buildings at their backs. But the only available view was at street level and completely obscured by trees. “You are thinking of a sniper shot?”

Daichi nodded. “My brother is an animal. I will put him down like one.”

“We need a dry run. It all depends on whether we have a line of sight.”

“What do I do?” Jimmy asked.

“Extraction.” Daichi pointed at the docks at the rear of the building. “I’ll take the building on the right, Kiku gets the left. Whoever has a clear shot takes it, and we’re gone. Easy.”

Jimmy shook his head. “Nothing is ever easy.” He looked at Kiku and said, “You were going to say that, right?”

Daichi exhaled and rubbed his eyes.

Kiku turned slowly to face Jimmy. “Are you mocking me?”

“No.” Jimmy held up his hands. “It’s just that … I thought … You know, the whole there is no luck. So, I thought … I’m going to shut up now.”

“That’s the best idea you’ve had yet.” Daichi clapped him on the back.

Kiku replied, “It is true I do not believe in luck. And right now we need to make a list of supplies, including guns and climbing equipment.”

“You’re going to climb up the building?” Jimmy asked.

“No,” said Kiku, “but we will come down that way. We can have a rope over the edge in seconds, compared to minutes taking the stairs.”

“And seconds count,” added Daichi. “When do you want to conduct the recon?” he asked her.

“As soon as we get all the supplies. And who knows, if the opportunity presents itself, our scouting mission could go live.”

“Agreed,” Daichi said. “Jimmy will get the boat.”

Jimmy grinned. “The harbor is loaded with boats. It’ll be no problem stealing one.”

Kiku inhaled. “For the dry run, please rent one, and use a fake ID.”

“Right.” Jimmy nodded emphatically. “I’ve got one question. How many men do you think are protecting Kenzo?”

Daichi shrugged. “Three or four …”

Jimmy was clearly relieved.
