The sun caressed her skin with gentle warmth. The scent of lavender and sage filled the air, mingling with the distant sound of the sisters' chants. Young Mathilda ran her hands through her hair, the locks her mother said were like spun gold. The other children darted between the herb beds, their laughter a melody in the serene garden.

Ingrid was there too, older and bolder, her feet bare against the cool earth. "Catch me if you can!" she called, her voice carrying a freedom that Mathilda envied. Ingrid's presence was like a wildflower amongst the orderly rows of herbs – untamed, vibrant.

The sensation of sage leaves brushing against her hands as she searched for Ingrid was vivid. The herbs whispered secrets, secrets that only Ingrid seemed to understand.

"You can't just always do what other people tell you,” Ingrid teased, emerging from behind a large rose bush, her eyes alight with mischief and defiance.

Mathilda knew her sister was different. Ingrid spoke to the plants, listened to the wind, and stubbornly questioned everything the Sisterhood taught.

"Why must you always follow the rules?" Ingrid asked, just as she had many times, her gaze fixed on the world beyond the clochar walls.

Mathilda protested, and now Ingrid's words were sharp with passion.

"There's more to life than this!”

Time shifted, and the scene grew darker as years elapsed. They were both grown now. The waning moon was setting in the sky, and Mathilda watched as her sister walked away, leaving their only home.

Mathilda, torn between loyalty and love, pleaded with her to stay, to not venture into the unknown, but Ingrid’s mind was set, and she carried on without a backward glance.

“We shall meet again, sister, but you have your life and I have mine. Farewell.”
