South America

South America has received investment from some bigger champagne and cava houses. Most of the production, which remains small, is consumed within South America itself. Argentina is currently the biggest producer of sparkling wine in South America, with Mendoza accounting for the bulk of Argentine output. Sites with great potential such as the Limarí Valley in Chile and Rio Grande del Sul in Brazil are yet to be fully explored.

South Africa

Simonsig released the first South African traditional method sparkling wine in 1971. Production of traditional method sparkling wine (‘Méthode Cap Classique’, or MCC), mostly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, remains on a small scale. Top producers include Simonsig, Boschendal, Graham Beck, JC le Roux, Pongrácz, Villera, Haute Cabrière, The House of Krone, and Colmant.
