Create a solid mental game plan to put into action

Having developed various mental skills and tools, how do you now take these and put them into action? And how do you ensure that you are using them to the best of your ability? This is where your “mental game plan” comes into play. Creating a plan gives you parameters to work within, providing you a structure that will be more conducive to accomplishing your goal.

You must pull together all of the skills you have learned into one cohesive mental game, thereby giving you a firm base from which to play. Below are some of the mental techniques and skills you have at your disposal that will help prepare you.

As stated previously, breathe deeply before a game or workout to reduce anxiety and help you focus on your body.

Visualize the game or workout, and remember to think about all the different sensations you may experience.

Have a pre-game playlist set up, filled with songs that will help you relax, meditate, or even psych yourself up, depending on what is appropriate.

Talk to teammates if you think this will help, or alternatively, take a few quiet minutes alone to collect yourself.
