Mobile social networks Joining a mobile social network can give you the ability to detect other members in your vicinity and send messages and images to their phones. Each network works slightly differently; but the general idea is that after joining, you download software to your phone and use it to locate and contact other members. Some even offer mobile classified advertising and games you can play with other members who are nearby.

To join a network, sign up online and install software on your phone. Here are some mobile social networks to check out. 1) www.facebook.com 2) www.fotochatter.com 3) www.dodgeball.com 4) www.funkysexycool.com 5) www.smallplanet.net 6) www.juicecaster.com.

The Socialight mobile social network (www.socialight.com) lets you leave and pick up location-specific phone messages called Sticky Shadows. When you’re somewhere interesting, use their software to create a Sticky Shadow on your phone. Include a photo, video, text or an audio clip. The software will attach the location to your message, which you then make available to your personal network or a public network.

You can also leave a message or image for other camera phone users in the form of a 2-D bar code. Read more about that in Chapter 4.
