BOR 8-2 Locking the Bathroom Door

Spare skeleton bathroom keys should be kept in near proximity to bathroom doors. Often these keys consist of little more than a screwdriver or pen. Bathroom doors shall be closed or locked depending on the identity of individuals currently in the home. Door knocking is mandatory before entry whenever a household bathroom may be occupied.

A. Bathroom doors may be left ajar if an individual is alone or at home with only the spouse or cohabiting “significant other” currently at home.

B. Bathroom doors shall be closed but may be unlocked when only cohabiting family members are currently at home.

C. Bathroom doors shall be closed and locked in all other situations.

D. Bathroom doors may be optionally closed or locked by the occupant regardless of the social situation.
