Chapter 14
I sighed when I kicked off my Louboutins and lifted my feet over the arm of the sofa to lie back, and my laptop was warm in my lap as I browsed the latest Bellae sales report. The office space for my sister and me was similar to a hotel suite. I had worked down the hall at the time Megan took over for our mother, but we discovered we were running back and forth between each otherâs offices too much to be effective. We decided to renovate so that each of us had a private office, which adjoined a large living roomâlike space with plush carpet and couches. There was also a bathroom and dressing area where we kept clothing for events in the city.
I was grinning at the numbers for the Natural Girl line when Megan came out to talk to me. I said, âYou should probably mention how brilliant I am for getting Madison.â
âYeah? Whatâs the increase?â
âAlmost ten percent this month.â
âWow.â
Megan sat across from me, and I noticed her pale face and the bags under her eyes. I asked, âStill sick every day?â
She nodded. âIâm absolutely exhausted too. Making babies is no joke.â
âI can imagine. Is Nick coming in for the gala at the Met?â
âHe is, but Iâm not sure how long Iâm going to last.â She let out a yawn before she leaned forward on the sofa and grabbed my glass of seltzer. âAre you bringing Justin?â
My smile was so big it almost hurt as I said, âI am.â Justin and I had settled into a euphoric state of love over the past few weeks and spent all our free time together. I couldnât recall a time I had been happier.
The glass thumped when she set it back on the table. âThings must be going well.â
âVery well. Iâm head over heels for this guy.â
âGood for you. He seems to be a lot more fun than Barrett ever was.â
âDefinitely. And the sex.â I sighed.
Megan chuckled. âAlways a good thing when thatâs off the charts.â
I had clicked on the next page of my report, and when I frowned, Megan asked, âMenâs line?â
I nodded as I stood up to put my computer away and started to get ready for our event. Weâd had a marketing meeting the day before, and I knew Megan was just as disappointed as I was. âWe really need to reboot, but our team isnât getting it. You know?â
âI do.â She followed me into our dressing area as she spoke. âI think our biggest issue is how do we make a womenâs cosmetics company name and reputation less feminine for men.â Her closet door clicked open as she pulled. âBellae Boys. I almost spit out my water when they tried to sell us that one.â
âHow about those skinny models who made me want to give them a burger? Nothing says macho like an emaciated male.â My skirt slithered down my thighs when I removed it. While we already had a big following of guys
