Cinnamon French Toast Strata
PREP TIME: 20 minutes, plus 4 hours to soak | COOK TIME: 30 minutes

Casseroles are some of my favorite easy dinner comfort foods. They always just hit right. So, why not try your hand at a breakfast casserole? Cinnamon French toast is a straightforward breakfast that it is hard to deny my love for, and putting it into a baked breakfast casserole seemed like an easy win. If you like cinnamon French toast even a fraction as much as I do, this recipe is a must try.
FOR THE CINNAMON TOPPING
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
FOR THE FRENCH TOAST
1 tablespoon butter, melted, plus more for the baking dish
3 tablespoons sugar, divided
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups cubed good-quality white bread (from about 4 slices)
2 large eggs
½ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch salt
TO MAKE THE CINNAMON TOPPING
1.âIn a small bowl, stir together the sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
TO MAKE THE FRENCH TOAST
2.âGrease a baking dish with a bit of butter.
3.âIn a large bowl, stir together the melted butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the cinnamon.
4.âAdd the bread cubes and toss to coat, making sure to mix well.
5.âIn a small bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar, vanilla, and salt to blend. Pour this mixture over the bread and stir to combine. Transfer the bread mixture to the prepared dish.
6.âSprinkle the cinnamon topping over the strata. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or up to 12.
7.âRemove the strata from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before baking.
8.âPreheat the oven to 375°F.
9.âBake for 20 to 30 minutes, until the top is toasty and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before serving.
