AMBASSADOR: Great. Ready? Set? Go!

The Ambassador hits the noise maker, and the student starts to run around the playground.

The Ambassador is desensitizing the student to the loud noise by first associating it with something fun (i.e., running around on the playground). Should the student have an adverse reaction to the noise, the Ambassador should stop immediately and desensitize the student by allowing the student to be the one making the noise, as outlined above.

AMBASSADOR: Great playing! Now let’s try a different game: I’m going to make the noise, but instead of running around, we’re going to walk silently in a line together over to the door.

STUDENT: [looks nervous]

AMBASSADOR: I’ve got a great idea:You can be the leader. Would you like that?

STUDENT: Okay.

The Ambassador should employ any tactics he can to incentivize the student. Should the above technique not work, the Ambassador should feel free to incorporate different incentives or objectives, such as collecting items, getting cookies or a snack in the lunch area, et cetera. Since the emergency drill will always require an end objective (exiting the room), the Ambassador should always try to work one into the situation at hand.
