The shadows come from an ornate iron gate in late afternoon light. With some careful positioning, they create an interesting pattern on my subject.

Here’s an example of finding the best lighting in your surroundings and going with it. Just when I decided that the sunlight was too bright to shoot anything we had on our shot list, I turned around and discovered these amazing shadows from the leaves of a maple tree flooding the wall in front of us! I simply positioned the couple in an opening of light and had them look off-camera.
