After Higher Grounds closed, Zac gave me a ride home but not before he handed over his jacket. The night air was a little chilly, and I walked out, hugging my arms. He was being nice. Classic Zac.

I shrugged into his jacket, but as we moved through the alley to the back parking lot, I smelled his soap, cologne, even a bit of freshly ground coffee. Enveloped in a Zac smell was intoxicating and immediately brought to mind the dreams, the kiss...

Reminded me that while maybe I couldn’t keep wishing for normal back, I also couldn’t survive immersing myself in the swirly, all-encompassing love I felt for Zac. I’d probably pass out.

“Here.” I pulled his jacket off like there was a spider inside the sleeve. “I’m not cold anymore. I don’t know. Must’ve been all the coffee.”

“But you drank a frozen mocha.”

“Well, I guess it’s the caffeine,” I said, because I couldn’t exactly say it was him.
