“THAT’S A control board issue,” Eli said after Taren told him about the error code. “Can’t tell ya what the problem is unless I have a look myself.” He grinned. “And considerin’ I don’t know yer name or whatcha look like, I’d say the chances of that are slim to none.”

It had taken some time to convince Eli that he was a friend of “the blond man with the misty eye” whom the dwarf man had formed a partnership with. Shifting disguises so often was starting to get annoying, but what else could Taren do?

“It’s not that I don’t trust you,” Taren said now, tugging at his headscarf. “I just don’t trust anybody.”

Eli laughed. “In a city like this, that doesn’t surprise me. Can ya tell me what model ship yer flyin’?”

“Fusion Five series.”

Eli stepped onto a crate to reach the old computer on his counter. He clacked away on the keyboard. “The first parts to go haywire in any control board are the transmitters since they do most of the communicatin’ with the rest of the ship. Try replacin’ the other five transmitters. I have all of them in stock except for one. If ya purchased the four, it would come out to be…” More typing. “Seventy-one credits.”

Taren drummed his fingers against the counter, deliberating. “Let me get a second opinion and I’ll get back to you.”
