Ainsley stared at the old man. He was built like a bear, a prodigious round belly flopping over his belt. His ripped white t-shirt was stained purple with sloppy wine., Scruffy white stubble and mussed short white hair completed the picture.

Even more, the wild look in his eyes told Ainsley that Bruce Falston wasn’t your typical senior citizen.

“Who wants a tour of my cellars?” he bellowed.

The couple at the end of the counter froze. Nobody replied.

Ainsley lifted a hand. “I do.”

He cranked his arm in a come-over motion. “Then get your sweet little butts back here!”

Trish exchanged looks with Ainsley. You asked for it.

Ainsley went over to the back cellar door. Bruce turned to his daughter. “You seen Fernando today?”

“Nope,” said Trish.

“He didn’t call in?”

“Nope.”

“That son of a bitch.” He turned to the couple. “Get off those stools and come get yourselves edjumacated. You won’t get another offer like this at any other winery, that’s guaranteed.”

“There’s cellar tours all over the region,” said the guy.

Bruce’s face went purple. He went over and yanked their glasses away from them. “This is my life’s work, you idiot. Now follow me and learn something.”

He stared at them in the eyes. Chastised, the couple exchanged looks, then stood up and followed Ainsley and the madman into the wine cellar.
